Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the hair, delivery, returns and care.
About the hair
What is the hair made of?
Premium synthetic crochet hair with the signature blowout look from Hair by Kissa, giving soft, natural movement and a featherlight finish.
What is crochet hair and how is it installed?
Crochet hair is added to your own hair using a crochet needle, usually onto cornrows. You can install it yourself or take it to your stylist.
What does "premixed" mean?
The colours are already blended, prepped and feathered for you, so the hair is ready to install straight out of the bag.
What's the difference between premixed blends and single colours?
Premixed blends combine several shades, in lengths of 18 to 22 inches. Single colours are one shade, in lengths of 24 to 26 inches.
All our hair is pre-pulled and feathered.
How much hair do I need?
Each pack holds 4 bundles’ worth, which is enough for a full head install in most cases.
How long is the hair?
Premixed blends are 18 to 22 inches. Single colours are 24 to 26 inches.
How long will it last?
A style can last 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how it's installed and how you look after it. To get the longest wear:
- Use fewer pieces for a natural, manageable look.
- Avoid thick oils and heavy lotions on your scalp and on the hair.
- Use a light, water-based leave-in conditioner, or water, and brush gently when styling.
- Avoid high heat.
Will the colour match the photos?
We do our best to show every shade accurately, but colours can look slightly different depending on your screen and the lighting. If you're not sure which shade is right for you, message us and we'll help you choose.
One-off mixes
Do you do one-off mixes?
Every so often we post an interesting one-off colour mix in the shop. If you'd like to know more about one, or have a question, get in touch.
Why are some shades sold out?
We keep limited stock of each shade, so popular ones can sell out. Join our mailing list at the bottom of the page to hear about restocks and new colours first.
Prep and care
Do I need to prep the hair?
All our hair is pre-pulled and feathered.
Why do you recommend an ACV rinse?
An apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse removes residue from the fibre and helps the hair settle. We recommend one before installing, especially if you have a sensitive scalp.
Can I use heat?
Yes, on low settings only. The hair takes well to bendy rollers if you'd like to add curls. Avoid high heat, as it can affect the fibre's texture and shine over time.

My order is delayed. What should I do?
Delivery times are estimates, and international parcels can occasionally be held at customs. If yours is taking longer than expected, contact us and we'll look into it with the courier.
My tracking hasn't updated, or it says delivered but nothing has arrived
If your tracking hasn't updated for 10 working days, or your parcel shows as delivered but hasn't arrived, contact us through our Contact page. We'll look into it with the courier and work with you to put things right.
My order arrived damaged
Contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and a photo of the parcel and the item, and we'll put it right.
I entered the wrong address
Contact us straight away. If your order is returned to us because of an incorrect or incomplete address, we'll get in touch to arrange redelivery, which may carry a postage charge.
Returns
Can I return hair?
Yes. Let us know within 14 days of receiving your order, and you then have a further 14 days to post it back.
You’re welcome to look at the hair to check the colour and style. To be accepted, it must be unworn, unwashed, uncut and unstyled, and sent back in its satin bag with everything that came with your order.
What can't be returned?
For hygiene reasons, and unless it's faulty, we can’t accept hair that has been worn, washed, dyed, cut or styled.
Who pays return postage?
If you've changed your mind, you do, including any customs charges on international returns. We recommend a tracked service, as we can't refund items that don't reach us.
If your item is faulty, damaged or incorrect, we cover the return postage.
What if my order is faulty, damaged or wrong?
Email us with your order number and photos. We'll cover return postage and arrange a refund, replacement or exchange, even if the packaging has been opened.
How do I start a return?
Email shop@illusioncrochet.com with your order number, what you'd like to return, and whether you'd like a refund or an exchange. We'll reply with a return authorisation number and the return address.
How long do refunds take?
Refunds are made to your original payment method within 14 days of us receiving your return. Your bank may take a few more days to show it.
For full details, see our Shipping Policy and Refund Policy.
Allergies and sensitivity
Can I be allergic to synthetic hair?
Some people have sensitive scalps and can react to synthetic fibres or to the coating used in manufacturing. Reactions can include itching, redness, bumps or irritation.
If you know you are allergic or sensitive to synthetic hair, please don't use it.
Does the ACV rinse help?
It can. An apple cider vinegar rinse helps remove residue from the fibre, which can reduce irritation for some people. It doesn't guarantee you won't react.
What should I do if I react after installing?
Remove the hair straight away and rinse your scalp with cool water. Speak to a pharmacist or doctor if the irritation continues.
Can I return hair if I have a reaction?
For hygiene reasons, hair that has been worn can’t be returned. If you know you are allergic or sensitive to synthetic hair, please don't order it. See our Terms of Service and Refund Policy for full details.
